Importing via Integrations
Castaway's Integration functionality comes standard with any monthly Plan.
If you have Castaway, you already have access to the Integrations features.
We've mentioned earlier how Integrations enables you to set up your Chart of Accounts in Castaway quickly. Integrations also allows you to quickly map your accounts from an External Source like Xero or MYOB ARL, which will then allow you to import several months of Actuals within a few minutes.
We recommend you bring in your Actuals via Integrations as it is a true time-saver, an error-free method (if done correctly) and a more efficient way to reconcile your data compared to manual entry.
Set up your Project for Actuals Import
There are a few things you'll need to do first before proceeding to the Import process.
-
Connect to your External Source
-
Map all your accounts from your Source to your Castaway Project
-
Set your Actuals Active Month to the Actuals months you'd like to import
Import your Actuals Data
Now that you've set your Project up, you can proceed to import your Actuals Data.
To do this, head back to Forecast > External Sources.
On the Import panel, skip to Step 3 and begin importing your information.
Opening Balances
Expand the Opening Balances section, select the month data you'd like to import and then click Import Opening Balance.
Once the import is successful, a confirmation text will appear in the bottom right of your screen.
Note: Opening Balances will only import data for the Balance Sheet. No Opening Profit & Loss data will be brought in.
Actual Value
Expand the Actual Value section, select the month(s) data you'd like to import and then click Import Actual Values.
You can import multiple months at once by selecting the desired periods.
Once the import is successful, a confirmation text will appear in the bottom right of your screen.
Note: You can re-import your Actuals data as many times as you require.
We recommend this especially if you have made any changes to your mapping.
Review your Imported Data
Navigate to Forecast > Actuals Data to review the data you've just imported. If your data is Out of Balance, it will appear in red at the top of your Balance Sheet Data.
Check out Resolving Out of Balance Projects for more information on why your Actuals data may be Out of Balance.
