Report Formulas is a powerful feature in Castaway to give additional insights into the numbers in the Report, giving more context and information, tailored to your audience. 

Note: Custom report formulas can only be positioned at the top of the report.


Adding a Report Formula

Adding a report formula can be done by editing rows when Tailoring your View in Reports.

  1. Click Edit Rows beneath the report title
  2. Click the formula icon to bring up the formula editor

Using the Report Formula Builder

Custom Formulas in Reports can only call upon data from within the same report. To create Custom Formulas that can call upon any of your Projects financial and non-financial data, check out Custom KPIs.

Building your Formula

  1. Name your Custom Formula
  2. To input data into your formula, select the origin under the Add Report Row right-hand panel
  3. Expand each section to view all the data lines, double clicking to bring it into the formula
  4. Under the Forecast Data source, entire sections can be selected, also by double clicking
  5. Click any of the mathematical functions to insert them into the formula
  6. Bring in numerical values typing them into the Values box, or using the up and down arrows, and then confirming the value by hitting enter or clicking the green plus button

Format Options: Visibility, Decimals, Period Total & Show as

  • Visibility - Always, Negative, Positive, Non-zero, Never
  • Decimals - Max. 2 decimal places
  • Period Total - Define how quarterly and annual periods will treat your data in reports
  • Show as - format the formula result as Negated or Percent

Calculation Method

The calculation method can be set to:

  • Standard calculates for the month
  • Rolling calculation (for the number of months indicated)
  • Cumulative (Ongoing) is a cumulative calculation that continues to the end of the report


Deleting a Report Formula

  1. Right-click on the Report Formula row 
  2. Click Remove formula
